What is a Shoffice? Everything You Need to Know

Shoffices – or ‘shed offices’ – are considered an incredibly worthwhile investment for homeowners. These modern structures have grown massively in popularity over recent years as more and more people choose to work from home rather than in the office, and can significantly increase the overall value of your property.

At Open Space Concepts, we specialise in the design and installation of bespoke outdoor living structures, including glass garden rooms. With over 25 years of experience in the industry, you can count on us to help you create a modern shed office that looks beautiful, boosts your productivity, and adds value to your home.

Why Should You Invest in a Shoffice?

Garden shoffices are a worthwhile investment for a number of reasons:

Add Value to Your Home

With many Brits still working from home a few days a week, shoffices are becoming increasingly sought after by estate agents to impress buyers. In fact, according to estate agents Barrows & Forrester, installing a shoffice could boost the value of your home by at least £22,000.

This additional living space is very attractive to those who work from home full or part-time as it helps them to achieve that crucial work-life balance. Not to mention the fact that garden shed offices are fully insulated and weatherproofed, making them suitable for year-round use and ensuring their durability for years to come.

Improve Productivity

If you work from home, installing a shoffice in your garden can massively help to boost your productivity. Finding the perfect work-life balance can be difficult when you live and work in the same place – but a shed office gives you the additional space that you need to focus, away from any distractions you might find in your home.

Open Space Concepts’ shoffices are kept at a comfortable temperature all year round thanks to natural ventilation systems and rotating roof blades, so you can enjoy productive work-from-home days no matter the weather.

Enhance Your Home’s Curb Appeal

When you work with the right outdoor living company to create your ideal shoffice, the results can be breathtaking. At Open Space Concepts, we can design and install a completely bespoke structure that compliments the external aesthetic of your home and has a sleek, modern finish.

Shoffice Planning Permission: Is It Required?

When you construct a shoffice with Open Space Concepts, no planning permission is required in the vast majority of cases. However, it’s a good idea to check with your local authority just to be sure.

Your garden shed office will require no planning permission as long as the structure

  • Is no higher than 2.5m from the bottom of the building to the top of the roof
  • Does not take up more than 50% of your garden area
  • Is not used for living or sleeping accommodation

If you find that you do need planning permission, we can help. Our expert design team can support your project application by providing drawings or digital visuals to accurately illustrate what the completed structure will look like.

Send us your bespoke requirements and we’ll get to work right away.

Shoffice Designs by Open Space Concepts

Our stunning glass rooms and Louvre Pods are the perfect foundation for your sophisticated garden shed office. Both stylish structures can be customised to the highest degree to suit your preferences and are designed to provide year-round comfort.

Louvre Pods

The Louvre Pod is our very own version of the increasingly popular metal pergola. A natural ventilation system ensures that the structure always remains at an ideal temperature so that you can work comfortably no matter the weather.

The Louvre Pods’ defining feature is the louvred roof slats that can be opened or closed in response to seasonal elements. This means you can soak up the sunshine from your shoffice in the summer but still be completely protected from rain and cold in the winter.

Our highly customisable Louvre Pods can be fitted with a wide range of modern features to increase the comfort of your shoffice even further, including fixed or movable glass doors and an integrated audio system.

Glass rooms

Our breathtaking glass rooms are very similar to our Louvre Pods, except they do not have a retractable roof or rotating bladed roof. The design of our glass rooms is timeless and sophisticated, making it the perfect addition to any garden.

Our glass rooms are properly ventilated to ensure the structure remains at a comfortable temperature no matter the season, and are made from aluminium and hardened glass to withstand even the most extreme weather conditions.

Just like the Louvre Pod, our glass rooms can be fitted with a wide range of additional features to make your shoffice uniquely your own.
