Questions about glass verandas

Open a question for the short answer and the film.

What is a veranda?

A glass veranda is an aluminium and glass roof fixed to the house. It covers a patio so you can sit outside when it rains, and the sides stay open. It is not a glass room. A glass room has walls and doors, and you can close it.

How big should a veranda be?

Size it to the patio you actually use. It wants enough depth to sit a table back from the rain, and a width that covers the doors you walk out of. We make each one to the wall and the garden, rather than to a standard kit size.

Does a glass veranda add value to a house?

A well made veranda adds a finished, usable space on the back of the house. We do not quote a percentage uplift. Buyers can see the space, and that is the value of it.

What are the disadvantages of a veranda?

The sides are open, so a veranda is not a winter room. Wind and low sun still reach you, and the glass wants a clean now and then. If you want to close the space and use it in January, a glass room is the better fit.

Do glass verandas need foundations?

A veranda fixed to the house is usually carried on posts, not a full concrete slab. We confirm the ground when we see the house. A glass room is heavier and more often needs a proper base. The planning note, including the council fee of generally £272 in England if an application is needed, is on our veranda planning page.

Are glass verandas too hot?

Glass faces the sun, so a clear day can feel warm underneath. Solar control glass helps, and the open sides let heat leave in a way a closed room does not. If you want shade you can open and close, a louvre roof is the other route.

How long does it take to install a veranda?

The fit on site is 1 to 2 days. The wait from the day you order is 10 to 12 weeks. The frame is made to your sizes in our German factory, powder coated, checked at our UK premises, then fitted by our own team. The 1 to 2 days is the installation. It is not the time from the order.
